We will have two parts to the cadet programme for 2016 / 2017:

1. A “Cadet Program” for NYC members’ children and Schools Member school children aged 7-14, run by 3 Degrees South with Anne Hickman as instructor.

2. An “Instructor school” program for Schools Members children that have their own RYA qualified instructors and will run their own events, currently St Andrews Turi and the French school.

The Cadet Program will take place over both days of the six nominated cadet weekends and children will benefit from organised instruction and training as well as camping at this unique location. Your child will be allocated to either Saturdays or Sundays. We can’t please everyone but broadly, Members’ children will sail on Saturdays and Schools will sail on Sundays. There will be a maximum of 20 places each day and children should be signed up for the whole year to ensure they benefit from the structured progression in skills. Sailing will be in Laser 4.7s, Radials and Optimists for ages 7 - 14.

Cadets will be divided into 3 groups: Beginner, Lower Intermediate and Upper Intermediate. Saturdays will start at 10am with the morning sessions running through until 12.45. After a 45 minutes for lunch break we continue from 1.30 – 4 pm. Sundays the same but one hour earlier.

Through the day the groups will rotate through activities led by either the lead or assistant instructors, with the session being broken down into 3 sections, each of 50 minutes, totaling 2 ½ hours morning and again afternoon.

Teaching will be a mixture of on water sessions with the instructor, on-water exercises and games with the assistants and some land-based teaching and theory.

Training is by prior appointment, please contact the Cadet Coordinator for availibility.
